A consulting firm has recommended State College explore the idea of consolidating with neighboring municipalities — again.
Twenty-nine years after borough voters rejected a proposed merger with College Township and Patton Township, the issue has resurfaced as local leaders look to grow the region’s economy.
Supporters and skeptics remain. State College Borough Council President Evan Myers says he still believes in the benefits of consolidation but isn't unsure if the political will exists to try again.

 SECRET POLICE: Philly narcotics police have secretly used a network of surveillance cameras to build their cases and concealed video when it didn't line up with their testimony, The Inquirer (paywall) reports. While some cases linked to an implicated unit have been dropped, the district attorney is still pursuing others and saying very little.    PRISON HUNGER: An advocacy group says there is "widespread hunger" in Pennsylvania prisons. A study by the 200-year-old Pennsylvania Prison Society found state prison menus that were low on calories, nutrients, and likely "exacerbating disease risk for a population disproportionately affected by chronic illness."  |
